Dora Woodrum is a Sarasota, Florida contemporary abstract artist known for her vibrant original paintings, rich textures, dimensional surfaces, and expressive use of color. Her artwork is collected by art lovers throughout the United States and internationally.
Since beginning her artistic journey in 2005, Dora has developed a distinctive style of contemporary abstract art that combines intense color, movement, texture, metallics, and pearlescent finishes to create paintings that are meant to command attention and bring energy to a room.
Her original abstract paintings have been collected for private homes and featured in businesses, hotels, commercial spaces, and film productions. Her artwork has appeared in productions including Vengeance, starring Ashton Kutcher, Freaky, starring Vince Vaughn, Fantasy Island, Murder RX, Hello, I Must Be Going, and Black Excellence.
But beyond where her paintings have been displayed, Dora believes the most rewarding part of being an artist is helping someone find an original painting that feels like it was made just for them.
From Nursing to a Life in Art
Dora's path to becoming a professional artist began unexpectedly.
A native of California, Dora moved to the Cleveland, Ohio area in 1997 and later relocated to Florida. She moved to Orlando in 2012 and eventually made Sarasota her home.
A self-taught artist, Dora began painting in 2005 during her days off from her career as a professional nurse. Painting started as a creative outlet, but friends and family quickly recognized something special in her work and encouraged her to begin selling her paintings.
The response was far greater than she expected.
Custom painting requests began to increase, and Dora eventually found herself at a crossroads. Keeping up with a growing art business while working full-time as a nurse was becoming increasingly difficult.
In 2008, she made the decision to follow her passion and become a full-time professional artist.
That same year, she launched NiceModernArt.com.
What began as a hobby had become her life's work.

Dora is best known for her large-scale abstract paintings featuring vibrant color, dramatic texture, and exceptional depth.

“What excites me is seeing what will happen next. There are so many possibilities. When I paint, I let go, experiment, and trust myself.”
